Welcome
Welcome! We're so excited to have you joining us for training. This is a big step in your journey. Wether you have a new puppy and are looking for a strong foundation, or your dog has behavioral issues, we are happy to have you and be your guide through this journey.

Below you will find a lot of very useful information. Please take your time and read through this page. Do not hesitate to reach out to us with ANY questions.

All of our programs are as much about behavior rehabilitation, as they are about obedience. So many dogs are great at obedience, but they cannot hold a command around basic distractions. So many dogs have great obedience, but they do not have a calm state of mind. It is so important for us and the dog, that we are able to work with the dog on these issues.

The biggest thing we will work on is having a calmer dog that listens better and is less reactive to all of the environmental stimulants around your home and in the world. With that starting theory, we are able then to train your dog on the obedience commands that you are looking for. We look at dog training as a lifestyle and not a series of tricks, our training and rehab program becomes part of your lifestyle.
As far as obedience we aim to work on the following with your dog:

-
Walking properly on a leash without pulling, barking, lunging, sniffing, or reacting to dogs and/or distractions
-
Sit & Stay
-
Down & Stay
-
Place command
-
Manners in public settings
-
Correcting bad behaviors – jumping up on people, jumping on countertops, mouthing, nipping,
chasing, playing keep-away
-
Recall training (off leash recall requires a longer program)
-
Mild separation Anxiety (some separation issues need a longer program)
-
Heeling properly on leash and eliminating leash reactivity (some intense leash reactivity needs a longer program)
-
Building confidence with your dog so you get a better off well mannered dog.
-
Calm on Command training – having your dog be calm in all situations, without him/her having to be worn out with hours of walking/play time
-
Engagement so that your dog learns to pay better attention to you in any situation.
-
Leadership skills with your dog so your dog understands proper pack order with humans, eliminating a
lot of pushy behavior dogs have. This is also great for nervous fearful dogs. -
Work with your dog on the anxiety and fear that is driving most unwanted behaviors

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOUR DOG COMES HOME:

-
The pickup day is always the hardest on a dog. He will be VERY excited to see you and may revert back to some old habits. We ask that on pickup day you remain neutral, calm and balanced and allow the trainer to maintain control of your dog. You are the biggest distraction for them and their excitement level of seeing you after so many days will be high.

-
Do not be worried if your dog breaks commands, jumps up or does other behaviors that are undesired those first few minutes when you arrive. It is perfectly normal and it just means your pup loves you so much! The trainer may allow your dog a few minutes to express their excitement or she may hold the dog in a command a few minutes to calm the dog and she will then release the dog to go say hello to you.

-
Pick up day can be overwhelming not only for you but for your dog. The amount of information given to you on that day is a LOT! We highly suggest you come refreshed and rested and bring a note pad. Please arrange to come without young children so you can focus on the training.

-
During the B&T, our trainer will send you daily updates, videos etc. We strongly encourage you to write down questions as you think of them so we may discuss them on pick up day.

-
Remember that proficiency will depend on many factors including Genetics, Breed, Age, etc. Our goal is to have a foundation of training for the dog and then continue providing you with support so that you can improve day by day with your dog.

-
You will see a demonstration of all of the commands/behaviors that the dog has learned and the trainer will give you instructions on the areas that the dog needs the most practice at home.Alternatively, some trainers may provide a personalized video library for your dog.

-
Handling a dog is 50/50 dog/handler. It is very important that you as the handler, make every effort to learn the techniques shown by the trainer. A library of personalized videos may be included in your trainer in lieu of in-person go home lesson to facilitate learning and consistency by every family member.

-
Changes in routine, management and leadership will be required once you return home with your dog to ensure that the training continues and strengthens. Behaviors in animals need to be consistent for 3-6 months before they become a natural habit, so it is crucial that consistency and follow through be given to the newly learned commands/behaviors.

-
Remember your trainers are here with you EVERY step of the way to give you LIFETIME support! Don’t hesitate to call us if you have any questions and Thank You for trusting your dog’s training to us.
